I’ll be on holidays for the next few weeks. I’ll be back early October, hopefully refreshed and ready to start creating more glorious creations in EQ7.

We took my mother-in-law out today for a belated mothers’ day lunch. Really nice fish and chips of course. I love being by the water and find it very relaxing.

This is the view as I walked up to my car from work on Wednesday afternoon, those long autumn afternoon shadows are very distinct. The rain was just spitting a little bit and it was also very windy.
Next are some teaching samples I made this week.
Quilt Basting Experience

Yesterday I finally got around to basting a quilt which I need finished by the end of the month. Nothing like flying by the seat of your pants is there?
I decided to use a new tape I had bought specifically for securing the backing fabric to my tiled floor. Turns out it is duct tape, silly me. According to Wikipedia it will leave a sticky residue when removed. Don’t I know it! It left part of the fabric backing as well in some places. Took me about 15 minutes of hard rubbing with Sticky Spot and Goo Remover and Eucalyptus oil as well to get rid of it. Last night I still heard comments of ‘there’s something sticky on the floor over there’. lol The eucalyptus fumes coming from the cloth I used and placed in the laundry were so strong the cyclist complained his eyes were watering!
I’d need to be really desperate to ever use this tape again. Apparently gaffer tape will remove cleanly but I’m guessing I won’t come across any of that at the ‘right price’.
Mona Vale Today

This morning when I left for work it was a chilly nine degrees where I live, it was even much cooler earlier. I was working at Mona Vale and took this photo at the grassy area overlooking the Beach. When I left work it was a beautiful mild and warm winter’s day and the thermometer had risen many degrees by then.

Angela over at Cut to Pieces is hosting a Super Mario Brothers Quilt Along. Sounds like a lot of fun to me. Yesterday I went out and bought most of the fabrics required. I think I’ll have to make 2 sets though! 2 sons who both think this sounds great. That’s a lot of stitching! I’ve started washing my fabrics and can’t wait to slide a new blade into my rotary cutter. 🙂
Son number 1 thought we needed a Bowser, pictured above, for the quilt but this block is huge, perhaps if I find time I could make one up for the back. Only time will tell!
All requirements are listed and a there’s a Flickr group as well.
Yesterday I was also informed there’s a teacher evening planned for the beginning of October and my contribution needs to be basted and quilted. Oh so many projects and so little time.
Gotta fly, byeee.
Fabric Origami Bukuro Bag

I’ve made one of these the last few days. It was a free pattern at the big quilt show in Darling Harbour. Mixed promo from Brother and Spotlight. Very cute bag. I’ve been using it alternately as a thead catcher and as a carry bag for my sat nav device on the week-end as I forgot where I left the carry case for it. (Next to my computer of course!)
You know I found it quite hard deciding which fabrics to cut into for this bag. Either everything I chose was too precious or I didn’t have enough or I didn’t want to hack into something only to discover at some stage down the track that I didn’t have enough fabric for a backing for a special quilt etc. etc.
Unfortunately it isn’t quite large enough for the larger type of mug which I prefer, so I suppose I’ll be making a slighter larger one to carry my mug along to quilting get togethers etc. Now how long will it take me to choose fabrics for another bag I wonder?
