There has been a lot of interest in red and white quilts since the exhibition at the American Folk Art Museum, Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts, last year. I am very fond of red and white as a quilt combo, I think all readers of my blog know that. I often design quilts with red as the feature fabric as well. Judy B the Virtualquilter has a selection of red and white quilts on her blog from time to time as well.

A couple of days ago I had another white/red quilt design on my blog, Red Sky At Night Quilt here and Judy B suggested, partially due to the name, I reverse the colours for fun, it is Electric Quilt after all and no hardship or fabric is harmed in the design process.

Here is my design, with Judy B’s favoured layout. It doesn’t look as impressive to me, perhaps it is the shade of red chosen, perhaps I am biased and it will grow on me, what do you think?

Today I finished this block. I wasn’t sure how it would sit with the others but I think it is just gorgeous, I am very pleased with how it turned out and it’s a perfect size as well, what more could a patchworkers ask for? Quite a bit of work in this block with mitred seams and seam intersections to line up as well.

I like the clean uncluttered lines of this one, just showcasing those wonderful stars. Ahh, red and white and stars as well, no wonder I like it so much. I’m just not sure whether I prefer version 1 or 2, not that it matters as I have no time to stitch one together anyway!

I like this design, the colour palette may be a little soft but there’s still enough contrast to see the great design peeking through. May be it should be twist and sshhh! There is a lot of twisting going on here though and solids are very popular at the moment.

I’ve been playing around with pine tree blocks as well.  I auditioned one as a possibility in the corners of  my Camborne quilt but dismissed the idea. I still can’t stop playing around with them though. Lots of half square triangles there, mmm not something I’m up for at the moment.

While I’ve been playing around with my Camborne file I came up with this design too.

Sounds like a celebration of Chinese New Year doesn’t it? Happy New Year everyone!

While I’ve been playing around with blocks in EQ I designed and drew up this block and now I’ve set it into a quilt design. Simple and effective, I like it.

I’ve come across this block and thought I might sew one up and see how it looks for inclusion in my (Advanced Sampler) Camborne Quilt. Could be a bit fussy, I’ll just have to stitch one up and see won’t I?

Here’s an EQ version of my proposed quilt. I’ve been working on the piecing and applique for the central block but my fingertips are a bit sore at the moment. I’m still not 100% sure about the two potted star flower blocks, one a variation of the other. What do you think, too much? I’m also worried about the Mississippi wheel of fortune block without a yellow background around the points mmmm, decisions, decisions.

I’m finding it hard to find my rhythm after the Christmas break. Hard to focus, hard to get motivated to do anything really.

This is the sixth block I’ve completed and I’m not sure where to go next with this quilt. I’d like 2 more blocks set on point for the corners but I can’t seem to find any I like. I’m not sure about one of the blocks I’ve made either, I think it might be too soft. Ho hum and fiddle dee dee.

Anyway here is my Mississippi Wheel of Fortune block. This was a difficult block to construct because of the small size of the pieces and I’m thinking may be too difficult for students in a class as well. I’ll just have to keep moving forward or it will end up another ufo and I certainly don’t want that.
